Evaleen was one of the first seven sages of the Goddesses, created at the dawn of Hyrule to defend the Triforce.

Evaleen's name predates many Hyrulean languages. It is possible the Ancient Hylian words evala (weeping, sad, crying) and leen (tomb, grave, crypt) were derived from her name.

Physical AppearanceEdit

In the Book of Mudora, Evaleen is described as "created most fair and most beautiful, though her shame and humility wrapped her in countless bands and cloaks, shadowing herself from the light." It is assumed Evaleen is likely a female humanoid and wrapped in various strands of cloth or bandages with dark red hair. She is commonly portrayed as a tall Hylian female wearing purple robes and wrapped in hundreds of bandages.

Powers and AbilitiesEdit

Evaleen was given the ability to end all forms of life utterly and completely. She can bring about sickness, withering, and ultimately death on any living being. Evaleen displays her power as Sage of Shadow when she arrives on Death Mountain with her army of the damned which she had crafted over millenia. She makes her entrance in a cloud of cursed purple smoke, and emerges to confront the warring First Sages. She is shown to have completely eliminated several large Gohma and other minions of the other First Sages by tapping into the infinite darkness drawn by the battle, absorbing their essence, only to continue fighting.

It is said she could also stretch out shadows and completely darken an entire area, though that is not the case.

Evaleen's personality is described as one of constant shame, humility, and self doubt. She considers herself the lowest of all Sages and unworthy of her title. Though her actions were utterly remorseless, many consider her kind despite her role.

Creation of HyruleEdit

Evaleen was the sixth Sage to be created by the Golden Goddesses. She was created to regulate the lifespan of the Goddesses' creations and assure they would not outgrow and outlive their intent. She participated in battle against many of the Druthulidi that were corrupting the creation of Hyrule. When the Goddesses initiated their purge of Hyrule, it was said that she instantly ended the lives of the Druthulidi's minions, killing countless monsters.

Post CreationEdit

According to the book of Mudora, with Hyrule in its infancy, Evaleen returned to the Sacred Realm and watched over the Triforce, awaiting for the Trilith so that it may be passed on to mortals. She was tempted by Sulkaris to aid in the stealing of the Triforce, though Evaleen ultimately rejected the offer and warned Solahrasin of her treachery.

When the Trilith awoke into Hyrule, Evaleen, five of the other Sages, and the three Oracles passed the Triforce unto them and placed it in their care. Evaleen taught mortals the concepts of death and decay, as well as the respectful preparation and disposing of the dead. Her task complete, Evaleen withdrew into the darkest shadows of the earth and vanished. She would make her Sanctuary under the site of Kakariko.

There is no record of Evaleen's successor. Evaleen is often worshiped by the Sheikah as a lesser deity, and there is some evidence that she was considered a lesser deity in the Kingdom of Ikana. In later eras she is associated with death, decay, burial, blood, and embalming.

In truth, Evaleen and the other six Sages despised and warred with one another, as well as with the Druthulidi for control of the Triforce and dominion over Hyrule and its mortals, eventually coming to a tenuous truce. Sulkaris, an opponent of their plans, was exiled rather than killed to preserve the myth that the First Sages were immortal.

The Return of Sulkaris Edit

In 126, after the deaths of Malkorbagia and Maphaeus, Evaleen and her armies arrive at Death Mountain to kill Sulkaris, but collide with the armies of Solahrasin, Kovaloo, and Demoko. Spurred by their mutual hatred, the Sages attack one another rather than ally against Sulkaris.

Evaleen and her undead armies are annihilated by the Aura, utterly destroying her except for the Shadow Medallion from which she drew her powers. The Shadow Medallion is subsequently recovered by the Gohma.
