Forts are special military buildings which can be constructed almost anywhere within a faction's territory on the campaign map.

Forts must always be garrisoned by at least one unit, or they will be deconstructed at the end of the player's turn. A Fort provided defensive bonuses to the units garrisoned within and prevents enemy forces from moving past it, making them useful for constructing on vulnerable passes and roads into a factions' territory. Forts also provide a line-of sight bonus, though it is not as effective as that of a watchtower.

Forts cannot be destroyed once built, though they will disappear if their garrison leaves. Any Fort in a region captured by another faction will remain under control of the original owner until the garrison is defeated, upon which the Fort will be occupied by the conqueror.
